Description
CVSP is a component of Fortran’s next generation of Central Traffic Management System ARIA. The centrepiece component of ARIA is a reliable real-time centralized Traffic Signal Control System. ARIA CVSP utilizes the real-time vehicle information and trip data, to provide priority to vehicles, to minimize the vehicle dwell time at the intersection via real-time optimization of traffic signal timing. The vehicle information can be provided by way of an AVL system, an embedded device or a cellular-connected mobile device within the vehicle.
A CVSP system reduces the vehicle dwell time at the traffic signal by optimizing the signal timing in real-time and providing priority to the vehicle. Moreover, it is particularly advantageous to transit vehicles by reducing transit travel times. This results in increased schedule reliability, increased ridership and customer satisfaction, decreased capital and running maintenance costs and reduced energy consumption and vehicular emissions.
The ARIA CVSP system is developed upon a real-time Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) platform that provides real-time infrastructure information (e.g. TIM, MAP, SPaT) via LTE or DSRC/C-V2X communication. In addition to the signal priority, the solution provides the traffic signal timing and infrastructure related information to the vehicle and the driver.
The ARIA CVSP system capabilities extend to all types of connected vehicles (e.g. emergency vehicles, high occupancy vehicles, autonomous shuttles and freight vehicles) with varied levels of priority.
Fortran’s CVSP solution has the following advantages:
- Supports V2I communications
- Highly interoperable and scalable
- Flexible and versatile signal priority algorithm
- Schedulable algorithm configurations
- Support of multiple concurrent priority requests
- Hardware agnostic
- Compliant with NTCIP and SAE standards
